The importance of incorporating games into Seniors' daily activities.

Incorporating games at senior care facilities can have a significant impact on the mental and physical well-being of residents. Last week I had the opportunity to participate in a baseball game with our partner facility Ennis Care Center. I got to witness firsthand the smiles, laughter, and joy that games bring into everyone's day (staff and volunteers included!).  Many seniors in these facilities may experience loneliness, boredom, and depression due to social isolation and lack of mental stimulation. Games can provide a much-needed source of entertainment and social interaction, helping to combat these negative emotions. Additionally, games can help seniors maintain or even improve their cognitive abilities, memory, and hand-eye coordination. This can lead to improved confidence and independence, as well as a better overall quality of life.

Furthermore, games can be a great way to foster a sense of community and belonging within the senior care facility. Residents can form teams, compete against each other, and engage in friendly rivalries that promote a sense of camaraderie and socialization. Games can also serve as a platform for intergenerational activities, as family members or volunteers can participate alongside the residents. Overall, incorporating games into the activities offered at senior care facilities can be a valuable way to enhance the physical, social, and emotional well-being of its residents.
